I am a mom of a little man who is 7-years-old that was diagnosed with Asperger’s and many other diagnoses that I will not get into right now. He was 5 years old but there was symptoms before that. His speech was delayed and he had developmental delays along with acid reflex. He has very high sensory issues to loud sounds and sounds that he may have not heard before. He would not make much eye contact and could not do things for himself; like dressing and bathing.

Since he has gotten older his behaviors are out of this world. Many of the above issues still remain. Some days my husband and I wonder if we are going to survive. We have to hang onto the knot in the rope and trust in The Lord each step we take to help my little boy to have the best productive life he can. We have many interventions for him. HI, HS, Counseling, Med. Mgmt. and at this time we are hoping to getting his PSRS back because it was a great help with his behaviors. Then he has most important his family.

He is a special little man. He is smart. Loves to read but does struggle with other subjects. He does struggle with social skills and as of today he cannot make any friends because he says many things inappropriate for social and even at home actions.

I am starting this blog not to knock a child down but to show the love that these children have. To allow parents to come on here whether they have a child with ASD, HFA, or AS. It is for anyone that has anything they want to talk about.

Inspirational blogs, recipes especially for children, things that work if you have a child on the spectrum and just to say hello.

Brezy is a special child. He is a typical boy in many ways. He is my son. He is a gift to me from God. His world may look different to him but he is loved, he is accepted for sure in his home. We wish many people out there in this crazy world we call life could look into the eyes of a child who is on the spectrum and accept them for the little person they are.

BREZYSWORLD is different to many but to his family it is a world they live in everyday. We look into the eyes of a little man who is perfect in every way to us, just got some bumps in the road. Not weekly, monthly or yearly but everyday and every minute.

I look forward to seeing my friends and meeting new people as well. God Bless You!

I love you very much. I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. Your plate is definitely over flowing. You are in prayer…I will be sure to pray for you when our family gathers at night before bed everyday, in the mornings when we pray before school and I will pray for you during my private prayer time. This you can be sure and count on. 🙂

    I love you, your brother…

It appears that science is finally catching up to what the Bible has been saying for thousands of years.

OUR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH IS RELATED TO DIET. The purpose of this post is not to turn Glenda or her readers vegan…but rather get all of us to look at the nutrition value of food. Avoiding, meat, fish and especially chicken (worse than a slice of white bread), milk, eggs, ice cream yogurt (Soy yogurt excluded) and getting some exercise may only be the tip of the iceberg.

Our mental health is preventable and is curable by a diet that will increase dopamine and norpinephrine levels in the brain. What else increases dopamine and norpinephrine levels in the brain? EXERCISE! And it happens within minutes. However, physical exercise effects symptoms for up to about 90 minutes while medication has a half life of about 12 hours.

There have been limited studies to show that exercise works for ADHD and other mental illnesses.

So DIET is the next thing we should look at. If we truly want to combat mental illness in our children and in adults…we should do a 100% vegan diet…and reach heavily for those foods that have been proven to prevent and cure mental illness. In this post I will mention a few of those and provide some resources both written and video so that parents can do their own research and decide what is best for their child.

Before we get started I want recommend the book: Disease Proofing your Children by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, Board Certified Family Physician & Nutritional Scientist.

Here is a link…nothing wrong with a used book…check eBay. Here is a link for your convenience:

Preventing and Treating ADHD in Children

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most common neurobehavioral disorder diagnosed in children, and its prevalence is growing. Between 2003 and 2007, there was a 22% increase in ADHD prevalence in the United States — today, about 9.5% of school-age children have ADHD.

Since most of you are aware of at least some of the symptoms: behavioral problems, learning disorders, anxiety…I will not go into them here. However, I am re-posting a lot of this from Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s page on ADHD…you can read the article in its entirety here: http://www.drfuhrman.com/library/preventing_treating_ADHD.aspx

ADHD is a complex disorder of the brain that is believed to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Smoking and alcohol use during pregnancy, micronutrient deficiencies, excessive television watching early in life, and inadequate omega-3 fatty acid intake are a few of the environmental factors that increase risk.

    Nutrition and ADHD
Poor nutrition is a significant concern for attentional problems and ADHD — here are some of the dietary factors that have been linked to ADHD risk in scientific studies:

High sugar intake is associated with hyperactive behavior and ADHD.

Inadequate micronutrient intake. Supplementation to correct micronutrient deficiencies has been shown to improve ADHD symptoms.

A low-nutrient diet high in processed foods and soft drinks at age 4 ½ has been associated with hyperactivity in children at age Similarly, a “western” dietary pattern has also been associated with ADHD in 14-year-olds.

Food additives and dyes: many colored foods are marketed to children, and hyperactivity in children following ingestion of food dyes is well documented in placebo-controlled studies. Furthermore, a 2004 meta-analysis of 16 studies in children who were already hyperactive showed that their hyperactive behavior increased after ingesting food colorings.

There is preliminary evidence that certain pesticides (called organophosphates) commonly found on some fruits are associated with ADHD.

Omega-3 fatty acids (especially DHA) are the building blocks a child needs to build a healthy brain. Insufficient omega-3 levels are common in children with ADHD, and there is evidence that omega-3 supplementation, especially in combination with the omega-6 fatty acid gamma-linolenic acid (GLA; found in borage oil and evening primrose oil) improves behavior and ADHD symptoms.

Treatment for most children with ADHD: stimulant drugs

The primary mode of treatment for ADHD is a combination of stimulant drugs and behavioral treatment. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that 2.7 million children in the U.S. are currently taking medication for ADHD. There is concern about these drugs because of side effects (the two most common are insomnia and loss of appetite) and the potential for abuse, since stimulants such as Ritalin (methylphenidate) and amphetamines have actions on the brain similar to cocaine.

Also evidence has recently emerged that these stimulants may adversely affect the cardiovascular system — long-term stimulant use increases heart rate, and elevated heart rate increases the risk of cardiac death.

Natural Prevention and Treatment of ADHD

As a parent, these are effective strategies that will help to prevent your children from developing ADHD:

Limit television time and do not expose children under the age of 2 to any television. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under the age of two should not watch television.

Feed the whole family a health-promoting, high-nutrient diet of colorful fruits and vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds.

Encourage sports and other forms of exercise. Physical activity has beneficial effects on brain function, and several studies have reported that exercise improves attention, behavior and/or impulse control in children with ADHD.

Avoid processed foods, artificially colored foods, and added sugars. The simplest and most effective way to avoid the potential harmful effects of synthetic dyes is to avoid processed foods. When buying the occasional packaged food, check the ingredient list to avoid synthetic dyes and additives.

To assure adequate omega-3 fatty acids for brain development, give children a DHA supplement and feed them omega-3-rich foods (ground flaxseed, hemp and chia seeds, walnuts) regularly.

Buy organic produce when possible to limit pesticide exposure, especially when buying highly pesticide-laden crops.

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD, A FAMILY COMMITMENT TO DIETARY CHANGES IS CRUCIAL. My nutritional approach to ADHD used in conjunction with appropriate behavioral treatment has helped many families. Although it may take up to 6 months, significant improvements are almost always observed, and stimulant medications are rarely necessary.

FEED THE WHOLE FAMILY a health-promoting, high-nutrient diet of colorful fruits and vegetables, beans, nuts, and seeds.

For adequate omega-3 fatty acids {Avoid animal sources. Look for Flax Seed Oil, Flax Seeds, Chia Seeds, Walnuts, etc.}:

EPA 400-600 mg per day (taking DOUBLE the recommended dose every other day is also reasonable and effective).
    1 tbsp. ground flaxseed daily
Minimum 1 ounce raw walnuts daily, plus other raw nuts
    Little or no oils

Supplemental GLA (60-100 mg per day; an omega-6 fatty acid found in borage oil and evening primrose oil. Taking double the recommended dose every other day is also reasonable and effective)

Gluten (from wheat) and/or casein (from dairy products) avoidance for children who are sensitive to these proteins.

Again, my recommendation is to cut out all meat, eggs, dairy and processed foods…GO STRICT VEGAN and increase the foods we know prevent and treat ADHD and other mental illnesses, such as foods high in Omega -3 oils.

Watch the movie Lorenzo’s Oil. A true story staring Nick Nolte. His son had a debilitating mental disease. He saw doctors all over the world…spent his life savings trying to help his son. Then someone told him about… OMEGA – 3 OIL. Couple tablespoons a day…cured his son. An amazing story!

    Ice Cream
COFFEE (anything with caffeine…caffeine is a HUGE Trigger)
    Soda Pop
FROZEN PIZZA – Frozen pizzas are packed full of artificial colors and flavorings, just like pop. The ingredients used to help enhance these types of products can increase hyperactivity and decrease concentration. If you love pizza…make it from scratch. Put all veggies on it…a nice sauce…egg and dairy free dough…you will know exactly whats in it.
CORN (Yellow vegetables) – Yellow vegetables, such as corn, are known to cause reactions in individuals with ADHD. It is recommended that you refrain from eating these types of vegetables in order to help control your symptoms. If you want to eat healthy, opt for other vegetables like spinach (greens: kale, brussel sprouts, lettuce, parsley, cilantro), peppers or tomatoes.
CHIPS – This is a given…AVOID junk food altogether.
SQUASH- Squash is another yellow food to avoid when dealing with ADHD. For the same reasons as corn, squash has been known to cause flare ups. Not all yellow foods are bad for ADHD sufferers – bananas are okay because the actual banana is white.
FRUIT JUICE – Most fruit juices are loaded with artificial colors and flavors. You should avoid drinking fruit juices unless they are 100 percent natural with no artificial coloring or flavoring. It is sad to look down the isle at the grocery store…all that juice is KILLING OUR KIDS. Do not buy it! I buy 100% nothing added juices from the health food store. For example; Tart Cherry is one of my favorites…I usually mix: Blueberry, Tart Cherry, Black Cherry, Pomegranate and Elderberry. Look for 100% juice from concentrate…they add just enough filtered water to constitute it. Use The Black Cherry or Blueberry as your base. Mix 10oz to 12oz of your base…then add 2 tablespoons of each of the other juices. Makes for great health! The list is too long as to all the benefits…I hate to say it but…TRUST ME on this. In Addition, Zinc, Vitamin C, Mom’s Chicken soup, no cough syrup or antibiotic will do anything for Flu or Cold (See Super Immune System, Dr. Fuhrman – see below for handy link). Instead, the first onset of of a cold or flu…take 1 tablespoon of Elderberry. You may have to repeat. You will either stop the cold dead in its tracks or shorten the length of time you are sick. Also, make sure you are not getting “MEDICINE” that contains artificial ELDERBERRY. Go to your local health food store and get a bottle of 100% Elderberry Juice (might have elderberry flower extract, etc. in it. It’s not cheap…so don’t chug the bottle. 🙂 Depending on brand/geographic location a 16oz bottle will cost from $7.00 to $50.00. DFon’t be fooled into thinking $50 is better. Get the cheap one as long as it is 100%!
FAST FOOD – Fast Food is on the top of most “Do Not Eat” lists and this list is no exception. The fried foods found in most fast food meals are incredibly unhealthy and the ingredients have been known to cause an increase in ADHD symptoms.
RED MEAT – Red meat has been known to cause an increase of symptoms for ADHD sufferers, experts say. Cutting back on your red meat intake (or preferably eliminating it completely) may prove great benefits when it comes to controlling your ADHD. Chicken is NOT a good alternative. Chicken is worse than White bread for you. (Source: Dr. Fuhrman – 3 Steps to Incredible Health: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZuuQ_yF_YU)
RED DYE – Avoid any/all processed food…especially those containing animal products and Food Dye.

I hope this information is helpful. Study after study after study…this information has shown to prevent and treat ADHD and other mental illnesses and in come cases cure them! A plant based diet is the way to weight loss and great health. What if you need to gain weight? Because there are not a lot of calories in plant foods this can be a challenge…but you can do it! The largest mammals on the planet are vegans (Elephants, Gorillas, etc.) There are 100s perhaps thousands of vegan bodybuilders.

  4. Wow!
You’ve hit it right on. I have followed all of this for years now and feel so much better and I don’t have any of the above problems. I feel the closer to God’s natural foods, His Eden diet, what He plan for us in the beginning is what is still the best plan for His children to live by. Thanks for sharing all this wonderful information. Keep on keeping on and living your best for Him.

Blessings to you Glenda and your little man. We can all look forward the that wonderful day when the Lord will return and we won’t have to deal with all these health issues. Until then, may He be with you, giving you His strength, wisdom and peace for each day.
